About Dr Charles Armstrong

As a child growing up in the UK I always wanted to be a vet. Later I realised Medical School was more for me, however it was quite a journey for me to get in. Long story short, I worked first as a theatre porter in London and travelled to Australia. Working here, travelling and meeting all sorts of people was a very important phase in my life. When I travelled back to the UK, I got into Medical School and the rest is history.

At Medical School I was fascinated by the O&G block, and it made me decide that I never wanted to do anything else. Obstetrics and Gynaecology presented as two specialties that are closely connected, an excellent mix of medicine and surgery. I was attracted by the opportunity to make a difference, the variation and the collaborative nature of working in women’s health.

I have worked or trained in O&G in England, Scotland, New Zealand, and Australia.  The medical systems are similar, but every country or region has its own approach, and I am grateful to have learned from mentors and colleagues across continents.

Within obstetrics and gynaecology, I consider myself very much a generalist. With the exception of colposcopy, I offer a wide range of services in antenatal care and obstetrics and the general gynaecology services:

  • Investigative and operative gynaecology for the management of:
    • menstrual disorders
    • heavy and painful periods
    • irregular bleeding, Polycystic ovarian syndrome
    • fibroids
    • ovarian cysts
    • endometriosis and pelvic pain
    • prolapse and incontinence
    • primary investigation of sub-fertility
  • Laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis and ovarian cysts
  • Laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomy
  • Vaginal prolapse repair, and TVT sling


My rooms and main private practice are at 2 McCourt Street in Subiaco, opposite St John of God Subiaco Hospital and this is where the majority of my work happens.
